What does Stuart read?
Code repos and their git history, Claude Code and Codex sessions, Markdown folders, Obsidian and Logseq vaults, PDFs, a Notion export folder, Apple Notes if you allow it, and the calls Stuart listened to. It reads from your Mac. It doesn't connect to your email, calendar or chat apps.
Does anything leave my Mac?
Some things do, and we'd rather say exactly what. The index of your work stays on your Mac. When you ask a question, only the excerpts that answer it are sent to Stuart's service, which passes them to the AI model and doesn't store them. On a call, audio or transcript lines are sent the same way. Your account email, the name of each Mac you sign in on, usage counts and billing state are stored. The privacy policy has the full list.
Does Stuart join my meetings?
No. Stuart listens on your Mac, the way you do. It never joins as a participant, never speaks into the call, and never emails the other people on it. It also doesn't hide from screen share.
Do I need to tell people on my calls?
Yes. You're responsible for telling them, and in some places everyone on a call has to agree before it's transcribed. Stuart gives you a line to say at the start: “I use Stuart to take notes during calls. No bot joins the meeting.”
How does Stuart avoid making things up?
Answers are written by an AI model, and every sentence has to point to a real source from your work. A sentence without one is removed. If nothing solid turns up, Stuart says “Not sure.” Sources can still be out of date, so each one is a click away.
Which Macs does it run on?
A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 15 or later. On macOS 26, English calls are transcribed on your Mac. On earlier versions, and for other languages, Stuart's service transcribes them. There's no Intel or Windows version.
Does it work offline?
No. Your index lives on your Mac, but writing answers needs Stuart's service, so you need a connection.
Is my data used to train AI models?
Stuart doesn't train models on your data. Stuart uses Google's paid Gemini API, under whose terms Google doesn't use prompts or responses to improve its products. Google keeps them for a limited period only to detect abuse. Web searches are kept by Google for 30 days to run and debug search.
What happens when I reach a limit?
That feature pauses until the 1st of next month (UTC). You're never charged extra. Each plan also has a fair-use cap on AI cost, and if you reach it, AI features pause until the reset. You can upgrade to Pro from the app at any time.
How do I cancel or get a refund?
Cancel anytime in Stuart under Settings, Account, Plan. You keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. See the refund policy for how refunds work, or write to hello@stuartdesk.com.
